How It Works

Coaching sessions last one hour and these can be face-to-face, over the telephone or via Skype. Face-to-face sessions require a location free of distractions, like a meeting room, or we could try something more unusual like going for a walk if that suits you better.

Coaching is not like mentoring, teaching or counselling, I won’t be telling you what to do, but instead I will be asking you questions, lots of questions and some of them may be quite challenging.

I expect you to be open and honest with me and in return I will give you my full attention and listen to what you tell me. I may make a few notes – these are just to remind me of the discussion - and I will ask you to take some notes.

We will agree a goal for the session at the start, through questioning we will look at your current reality, identify some options and at the end of the session you will have some actions to take away. Then, at the start of the next session we will review your progress on those actions.

I will manage the time during the session, but if a session starts late it will still finish on time. Generally I will not interrupt you while you are speaking, but if I think we are going too far off track I might have to. If you feel that you need to take a break at any time, just say and we can stop.

I will have a ‘Parking Lot’ where any issues that come up that are not relevant to the current discussion can be ‘parked’ to be explored later.

Coaching can be exciting, challenging, fulfilling and often life changing, so during a session it is OK to be emotional, it is OK to get angry, but equally it is OK to laugh. Who knows, along the way we may have some fun!

Having a series of coaching sessions enables you to build up momentum to continue with your action plans after the coaching sessions finish.

Free Initial Consultation

I offer a free initial consultation lasting 30 minutes, which enables us to get to know each other and decide if we want to work together. If you would like to arrange your free session to discuss your goals you can contact me using the button below.

What is coaching?

Through conversation, coaching helps you to identify goals that are relevant to you and develop action plans to achieve them. These goals can be in any area of your life (eg career, home, confidence). Through the coaching process, you will take ownership of your own goals and action plans because they are yours and have not been imposed. This enables you to move forward in your life by doing what you want, at your own pace, to get to where you want to be.

Coaching is founded on a trusting relationship between coach and client, a partnership which challenges you to recognise and build on your strengths, explore your current reality and find positive ways to make changes. It is a means of motivating and facilitating you to achieve your true potential through setting and achieving self-defined goals, based entirely on the trust, respect and commitment of both parties.

Coaches expect you to take action – coaching is not about just talking without taking action to make a change. So if you’re not willing to do something to improve your current situation, coaching won’t be the right path for you.

Things to note

  • You won’t be given advice or told what to do:

  • I am not the expert in your situation

  • You are the best person to judge what’s right for you

  • I can help you to identify and clarify your aspirations

  • I can help you to identify your strengths and build on them

  • I can help you to identify weaknesses and provide strategies to overcome them

  • I can help you to improve your confidence, self belief and work performance

  • I can identify hidden potential and tease out skills that you hadn’t recognised.
